Are you reading a good biography of a saint for Lent? Their lives inspire and encourage us. Every saint, without exception, experienced sufferings in their lives. Some suffered physically, others mentally or spiritually, and most of them suffered all three ways! Many suffered persecution, from evil people or from misguided good people. Some lost everything materially speaking, even all their loved ones. Others had outwardly prosperous lives, but afterward people learned that they had suffered greatly from secret trials and tribulations.

“It is a mysterious fact that it is always with the chisel of suffering that God carves the form of His saints.”

“A saint’s life should never discourage you, but should always encourage you.”

St. Bernadette Speaks, by Fr. Albert Bessieres, SJ, 1956.

Lives of the saints inspire and encourage us, as I said before, by the beauty and valor of their lives. Who is your favorite saint? Have you read a book about him/her lately?

A Photo I took in Siena, Italy last summer. Happy Feast of St. Catherine of Siena, everyone! As you see, I'm not regularly posting her...
